A conexão por modem está desaparecendo rapidamente do mercado americano. Mais de 78% dos internautas do hemisfério norte agora utilizam uma conexão de banda larga. De acordo com um estudo da Nielsen/NetRatings, este número de 78% representa um salto importante se considerarmos os 65% do último ano.

O Associated Press indicou que os usuários estão passando 33% a mais de tempo na Internet. Isso significa que o internauta americano fica on line em média 35 horas por mês. É bom evitar fazer algum paralelo com as 44 horas de trabalho semanais do nosso país. Nós simplesmente podemos destacar que isso representa muito tempo na frente do computador.

Entre as atividades favoritas dos internautas conectados em alta velocidade, é possível encontrar os jogos on line, os serviços de mensagens, o envio de e-mails ou ainda o social networking (o Orkut é um bom exemplo).

Carolyn Creekmore, diretora de análises da Nielsen/NetRatings, explicou que “o que a maioria destes sites tem em comum, é que eles estimulam o visitante a passar mais tempo on line lhe oferecendo a oportunidade de se conectar com outros usuários”.
